Going Back To Where It All Began

It was coming back from a trip to the Philippines 3 years ago where this process began. I was scrolling though photos of my trip and saw what I looked like compared to what I used to be. I had allowed myself to compromise healthy habits and let myself go. Being a former collegiate athlete, I knew I was capable of more. After 6 months of cleaning up my eating habits and exercising on my own, I saw progress, but was starting to get bored working out by myself. That’s when I found 12 Labours CrossFit and when I found my extended family.

Over the course of these past 3 years, I’ve tried my best to be a good representative for our community in the hopes that I can give back to a place that has given me so much. Whether it’s been competing at Resolution Games, competing/volunteering at the MACC, or spending a few extra minutes with our members before or after class going over technique. Being able to represent this gym is a great source of pride for me as it is for all of you.

Here we are, 3 years later, and I’m going back to the Philippines to compete in Asia’s very first Licensed CrossFit event, The Kalis Games. It’s not the DC Armory. It’s not Madison. I’m not going to the CrossFit Games if I win. What this is for me is an opportunity to return back to where this journey started 3 years and 80 lbs ago. It’s an opportunity to let people know that CrossFit changes lives. It’s a chance to be able to represent our community on a global level and let the world know about the power of this affiliate.

Thank you, Luke Espe for giving me a place where I can test my limits without a fear of failure. Thank you Wilson Pak, Josh Arcona, Amanda Deller, and all of our amazing coaches for helping us become better athletes and better stewards to the community. Thank you to our members. I’ve said it time and again, the magic within our walls is the community. I hope to represent you all well when I take the competition floor in Manila in November.
